Puerto Colombia

Michael, our host in Barranquilla wanted to do the 16km ride with us to Puerto Colombia. We got up at 7 am and a friend of Michael joined us on the way. We went straight to the house where we would do CouchSurfing, for the second time, to drop off our bags and then go with them to explore the city.

Puerto Colombia it self is a small village in the shape of a square. It does not have much more than a cute little church and the beach. If it wasn’t a friend suggesting us to stayed at Liliana’s house, we thought Puerto Colombia wouldn’t be on our route.

The heat was so harsh that we went straight to the beach. Cycling gives us such tiredness that in less than 5 minutes, we fall asleep after had lunch and refreshed ourselves with a heavenly fresh mango juice under an umbrella. We awoke to the sound of the sea, our feet buried in black sand. This black sand beach made me realized that what Luis said was right. After Bahia Concha, we may not find a nice beach – bright sand and warm temperature water – for a long time. Luis took the opportunity to do a little surf.

After that, we returned home and spent the rest of the night sharing with our host and storyteller, Liliana, in Puerto Colombia.

Our next destination will be Cartagena!!! We are looking forward to wandering around one of the iconic cities in Colombia. However, we have a big challenge to go there – we have pedal our bicycle for 114 km with quite nothing along the way. It’s only less than a month since we started this journey. Do you think we can do it? Check here!
