Of the seven countries we visited in Latin America, Chile was the least Latin of all. But that doesn’t mean we haven’t stopped seeing the Chilean passion for soccer and listening to reggaeton everywhere. It continued to exist, but with moderation. It was also the country where there were rules for everything, so it was difficult to do wild camping, as we did so much in Peru and Bolivia. If we wanted to camp we had to go to dedicated spaces or campsites that charged us almost the same as a room… It was not a country that I fell in love with until we entered the “region of lakes” and “Carretera Austral”. From there to Ushuaia was the best part of the tour, with incredible landscapes, passages through forests, waterfalls, rivers with translucent waters and cold nights full of stars. This was the Patagonia we saw and fell in love with.
